In a landmark development for Pakistan’s automotive industry, Chery Pakistan has officially launched the locally assembled Tiggo 8 PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) — marking the first-ever locally produced plug-in hybrid SUV in the country.
The launch event, held in Karachi, was attended by auto industry executives, government officials, and media representatives. Chery’s leadership emphasized that this milestone represents a major step toward localization, sustainability, and technological advancement in Pakistan’s car manufacturing sector.
The Tiggo 8 PHEV, known globally for its blend of performance, efficiency, and premium features, comes equipped with a 1.5L turbocharged engine paired with an electric motor, offering a combined output of over 320 horsepower and an electric-only range of up to 75 kilometers.
Company officials revealed that local assembly of the model is taking place at Chery’s state-of-the-art facility in Karachi, in collaboration with Ghandhara Automobiles Limited. The move is expected to create new employment opportunities, reduce import dependency, and make hybrid technology more accessible to Pakistani consumers.
Chery Pakistan representatives stated that the Tiggo 8 PHEV’s introduction aligns with the government’s Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy, which aims to promote eco-friendly transport and reduce carbon emissions.
Industry analysts believe the launch could ignite competition in Pakistan’s mid-size SUV market, encouraging other automakers to invest in local hybrid and EV production.
The Tiggo 8 PHEV will be available for booking later this month, with deliveries expected to begin early next year.
