KARACHI — The Sindh government has announced plans to reduce e-challan fines following widespread public criticism over the high penalties imposed on traffic violations in Karachi and other cities.
According to officials from the Sindh Police and Excise Department, the decision came after a surge of complaints from motorists who described the current fines as “unaffordable and excessive.” The revised rates are expected to be announced soon after a formal review by the provincial cabinet.
Sindh Information Minister stated that the move aims to “ease the financial burden on citizens while maintaining road discipline.” He added that the government wants to balance enforcement with fairness and public convenience.
Social media had been flooded with posts from frustrated drivers demanding relief, with many calling the e-challan system “unfairly strict.”
Officials confirmed that while fines will be reduced, the digital monitoring system and traffic cameras will remain active to ensure continued compliance with road safety laws.
