Islamabad: The federal capital is set to receive its first-ever world-class cricket stadium in the D-12 sector, with construction expected to be completed within a year, according to officials involved in the project.
The new stadium will be built to meet international ICC standards and is expected to host major domestic and international cricket events once operational. Authorities confirmed that the facility will feature:
-
A modern players’ pavilion and upgraded dressing rooms
-
High-intensity floodlights for day–night matches
-
A digital scoreboard with advanced broadcasting systems
-
A large seating capacity for cricket fans
-
Practice pitches and training facilities for professional players
City planners say the D-12 sector was selected due to its scenic surroundings near the Margalla Hills and its potential to become a new sports hub in Islamabad.
With no major cricket stadium currently inside the capital, the project is being welcomed as a landmark addition for the city’s sports infrastructure. Officials emphasized that work will be carried out on a fast track to meet the one-year completion target.
