LAHORE — In a major breakthrough for child safety, the Safe City Virtual Center has successfully reunited over 51,000 children with their families through its advanced AI-based tracking and verification systems.
According to officials, the centre has handled more than 118,000 child-related cases, resolving a significant portion with the help of facial recognition technology, real-time monitoring, and a nationwide data network. The initiative, run under the “Mera Pyara” program, is designed to locate missing, lost, or abandoned children and ensure rapid assistance.
The system has also contributed to legal action in several cases, with thousands of FIRs registered where criminal activity was suspected. Child-protection teams and welfare organizations have praised the Virtual Center for transforming the response to missing-child incidents across Punjab.
Authorities say the centre operates round-the-clock, enabling parents and citizens to report missing or found children through emergency helplines, WhatsApp services, and the official safety app.
Officials added that the initiative is not only reuniting families but also building a safer, more accountable environment for children across the province.
