Lahore — The Punjab government has issued fresh directives for strict implementation of the one-dish rule at wedding events across the province, alongside a province-wide crackdown on loud music in marriage halls, marquees, and open-air venues.
The decision comes as part of the administration’s drive to curb unnecessary extravagance, reduce food wastage, and ensure compliance with existing noise-control regulations. According to officials, district administrations and law-enforcement agencies have been instructed to conduct surprise inspections and take immediate action against violators.
Authorities say marriage halls found serving more than one dish, or those playing excessively loud music beyond permissible limits, will face heavy fines and potential sealing of premises. Special monitoring teams have also been notified to ensure the directives are implemented uniformly.
The government emphasized that the one-dish policy helps ease financial pressure on families and maintains social equality, while noise restrictions aim to protect public health and ensure peaceful neighborhoods.
Citizens have reacted with mixed opinions—some praising the move as necessary, while others argue that it limits personal freedom during celebrations. Wedding hall associations have called for clearer guidelines to avoid confusion during peak wedding season.
The crackdown is expected to intensify over the coming weeks as authorities maintain a “zero-tolerance” stance.
