In a devastating incident that shook the Mehwal Shah area of Kashmore district’s Kandhkot tehsil, eight lives, including those of four children, were tragically lost on Wednesday when a rocket launcher’s shell exploded in a residential house.
Kashmore-Kandhkot Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rohail Khoso confirmed the heartbreaking casualties to Dawn.com, providing details of the victims. The deceased included four children, two women, and one man, all from the same family. The house where the explosion occurred was situated within the jurisdiction of the Goghat police station and belonged to Ali Nawaz Sabzoi.
According to SSP Khoso, the incident unfolded when children discovered a rocket shell while playing on the grounds near their home. Unaware of the dangers it posed, they brought it back to the house, where it tragically detonated, claiming the lives of eight individuals. The injured, including children, were also present at the scene.
In response to the tragedy, local law enforcement swiftly arrived at the site, securing the area for further investigation. An emergency declaration was made at the Kandhkot Civil Hospital to address the injured and coordinate support for the affected families.
Sindh Chief Minister Justice Maqbool Baqar expressed deep concern over the incident and immediately demanded a comprehensive report from the provincial inspector general. He raised critical questions about the presence of a rocket launcher in the Zangi Subzwai Goth area, wondering if it was part of a larger stockpile of weapons being smuggled into the region and if there were any individuals aiding criminal activities in the village.
Justice Maqbool Baqar expressed his condolences for the lives lost in the tragic incident and directed the inspector general to provide a detailed report, shedding light on how this catastrophic event occurred and the measures needed to prevent such tragedies in the future. The community and authorities are left grappling with the devastating loss, and the investigation continues to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident.
