Bollywood heartthrob Shahid Kapoor recently opened up about the pivotal role his wife, Mira Rajput, played in his decision to take on the challenging character of Kabir Singh in the blockbuster movie of the same name. In a candid interview with Pinkvilla, the actor shared insights into his initial reluctance and how Mira’s encouragement ultimately led to one of the most successful films of his career.
Kapoor, now 42 years old and a father of two, began by recalling the moment he was introduced to the Telugu film “Arjun Reddy,” which served as the inspiration for “Kabir Singh.” He and Mira watched the film together, and Kapoor’s initial reaction was one of admiration. “I saw the movie, and I was like, ‘This is a damn cool movie, man!'” he exclaimed.
However, his reservations arose when it came to taking on the role of Kabir Singh. Kapoor was particularly impressed with the performance of Vijay Deverakonda, who portrayed the male lead in “Arjun Reddy.” Initially, he hesitated, believing that a newcomer had already done a commendable job with the character.
Kapoor revealed, “My first answer was ‘no way am I doing this movie.’ Because this guy is a newcomer and he has done such a good job.”
It was during this crucial decision-making phase that Mira Rajput stepped in with her valuable perspective. She convinced Shahid Kapoor to embrace the role, citing the fact that his fans had a penchant for seeing him in love stories and complex, “messed-up” characters. “People love to see you in love stories, people love to see you in messed-up characters. This has both! Just do it,” she insisted.
The advice proved to be spot-on, as “Kabir Singh” went on to become one of the most significant hits in Shahid Kapoor’s career, receiving widespread acclaim from both critics and audiences alike.
The actor expressed his gratitude for his wife’s straightforward thinking, saying, “Her thinking was so simple, and I had overcomplicated it for myself, and I guess it was good I did ‘Kabir Singh.'”
Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput, who have been married since July 7, 2015, are proud parents to two children: a daughter named Misha, born in August 2016, and a son named Zain, born in September 2018.
With this revelation, it becomes clear that Mira Rajput’s unwavering support and insightful advice played a pivotal role in the success of “Kabir Singh” and further solidified the bond between this power couple in Bollywood.
