Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Ali Zafar announced that the party is poised to disclose the names of its election candidates within the next 24 hours. Speaking exclusively to GEO News, Senator Zafar revealed that confirmation notices have already been issued to 98 percent of the candidates who will be vying for positions in the upcoming polls scheduled for February 8, 2024.
Zafar shared insights into the party’s preparations, stating, “The party has successfully decided on 98 percent of the election candidates. Approval has been granted, indicating which candidates will be contesting on specific seats. The final decision for the remaining two percent of candidates will be made very soon and announced following the verdict from the Peshawar High Court (PHC).”
Highlighting the participation of legal professionals in the electoral process, Senator Zafar mentioned that a substantial number of lawyers are anticipated to run for office on PTI tickets. However, he did not disclose an exact figure.
With the polls just a month away, PTI’s swift progress stands in contrast to other political parties that are yet to finalize their election candidates. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), for instance, faced a delay in awarding final party tickets. According to an insider within the PML-N, the delay was attributed to seat adjustments with multiple political parties and internal disagreements among PML-N leaders.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, the focus remains on the imminent announcements from PTI and other parties as they shape their lineups for the upcoming elections.
