In a recent intelligence-based operation (IBO) conducted by security forces in Balochistan’s Panjgur district, a terrorist was killed, the military’s media affairs wing confirmed on Thursday.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) released a statement detailing the operation, which took place the previous night. “During the conduct of the operation, own troops effectively engaged the terrorists’ location and resultantly terrorist Chakar Liaquat was sent to hell while two terrorists got injured,” the ISPR said.
The deceased militant, Chakar Liaquat, was identified as having been actively involved in numerous terrorist activities. The operation also led to the recovery of a weapon and ammunition from the site.
A sanitization operation is currently underway in the area to eliminate any other terrorists, as part of Pakistan’s continued efforts to eradicate terrorism from the region. The statement emphasized the determination of Pakistan’s security forces to wipe out the menace of terrorism from the country.
Pakistan has faced increased terrorist activities in the past year, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan following the end of a ceasefire with the banned militant group Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan in November 2022.
In a separate incident on Wednesday, two soldiers were martyred while eight terrorists were killed by the Pakistan Army after thwarting an attack on the Gwadar Port Authority Colony.
An annual security report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies revealed that in 2023, Pakistan witnessed 1,524 violence-related fatalities and 1,463 injuries from 789 terror attacks and counter-terror operations — marking a record six-year high.
The report highlighted Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan as the primary centers of violence, accounting for over 90 per cent of all fatalities and 84 per cent of attacks, including incidents of terrorism and security forces operations.
The operations by security forces reflect Pakistan’s commitment to combating terrorism and ensuring the safety and security of its citizens.
