A wildfire erupted at Margalla Hills National Park due to a severe heatwave, starting near Kalenjar village and rapidly spreading across the area. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) officials and fire brigade vehicles rushed to the scene to extinguish the blaze.
Videos captured by citizens showed smoke billowing from the hills, raising concerns for the wildlife in the park. Recently, two fires were reported in the Chiran Di Gali and Saidpur areas. It took approximately seven hours for firefighters, assisted by three helicopters from the defence authorities and Prime Minister’s Office, to control the flames.
However, the next day saw new fires igniting at 15 different locations, requiring an additional eight hours of effort to put out. Margalla Hills National Park, covering 12,605 hectares, falls under the jurisdiction of the CDA and the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB).
