Tokyo authorities have launched a cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI)-powered system aimed at improving response times during emergencies such as fires and building collapses. Developed by Hitachi Ltd., this new technology leverages high-altitude cameras to detect and identify incidents in real-time, as reported by Kyodo News on Tuesday.
The AI system is designed to automatically recognize fires and structural collapses, swiftly transmitting critical information to the police, fire department, and Japan’s self-defense forces. This rapid communication is expected to enhance the efficiency of emergency response efforts.
The introduction of this system comes as Japan remains vigilant due to concerns about a potential “mega” earthquake. To support the AI technology, high-resolution cameras have been strategically installed at key locations, including Tokyo metropolitan government buildings and other critical sites across the city.
