Adobe announced on Wednesday that it will release a new generative AI-powered video creation and editing tool, called Adobe Firefly Video Model, later this year. The tool, currently set for a limited beta release, will enhance Adobe’s suite of AI applications aimed at creative professionals.
Building on the success of its Firefly image-generating tools, the Firefly Video Model will enable users to generate five-second video clips based on simple prompts, interpreting both text and images. Alexandru Costin, Adobe’s vice president of generative AI, highlighted the tool’s ability to allow users to control camera angles, motion, zoom, and more. According to Costin, the model is tailored to meet the demands of videographers, providing a higher quality and deeper prompt understanding than competing AI video models.
With this release, Adobe aims to establish itself in the rapidly growing AI-driven video generation market, competing with platforms like OpenAI’s Sora and Stable Video Diffusion by Stability AI.
Adobe emphasized that its AI models are trained exclusively on public domain and licensed content, including the Adobe Stock database, to avoid issues related to intellectual property.
Additionally, Adobe will introduce Generative Extend, a feature in its Premiere Pro software, that allows users to seamlessly extend video clips by generating up to two seconds of additional footage to fill gaps. This feature, previewed in April, has received positive feedback from early users.
The launch of Firefly Video Model signals Adobe’s continued push to integrate AI across its tools for creative professionals, providing innovative solutions for video generation and editing.
