An Air Canada plane caught fire during landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Saturday night, sparking panic among passengers and crew. Fortunately, all 176 passengers and crew members onboard were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported.
The incident occurred as Flight AC742, arriving from Vancouver, was touching down. Witnesses reported seeing flames and sparks emanating from the aircraft’s landing gear shortly after it made contact with the runway.
Emergency response teams were quick to act, extinguishing the fire within minutes. Passengers were evacuated via emergency slides, with many describing the experience as “terrifying but well-managed.”
“I saw flames out of the window and feared the worst,” one passenger recounted. “But the crew handled the situation professionally and got everyone out safely.”
Air Canada has confirmed the incident, citing a suspected mechanical issue as the cause of the fire. “Safety is our top priority, and we are cooperating fully with authorities to determine what went wrong,” the airline stated.
The runway was temporarily closed for inspections, causing minor delays for other flights. Transport Canada and the Transportation Safety Board have launched an investigation into the matter to prevent similar incidents in the future.
