Cochin, August 11, 2024 — A 42-year-old Air India passenger, Manoj Kumar, was apprehended at Cochin International Airport on Sunday morning following a threatening comment made to a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officer.
During routine pre-embarkation security procedures at the X-ray Baggage Inspection System (XBIS) checkpoint, Kumar allegedly asked the CISF officer, “Is there any bomb in my bag?” The comment immediately raised alarms and triggered a high-alert response from the airport’s security personnel.
The airport’s security team acted swiftly, involving the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) to conduct a thorough inspection of Kumar’s cabin baggage and personal items. After a comprehensive check, which yielded no explosive devices, Kumar was handed over to the local police for further questioning.
Despite the disruption, the Air India flight scheduled to depart for Mumbai proceeded on time, with no delays reported.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
