In a horrifying shark attack off the coast of Dahab, Egypt, an American tourist lost her left arm while swimming with a companion. The victim was quickly rushed to the hospital after being pulled from the water unconscious. Fortunately, her condition has since stabilized, and she has received all necessary medical attention, according to local authorities.
Eyewitnesses reported that the terrifying incident occurred on Dahab’s Laguna Beach, where swimmers initially mistook the shark for a tuna. As news of the attack spread, panic ensued, and beachgoers scrambled out of the water.
Egypt’s Minister of the Environment, Yasmine Fouad, responded swiftly to the incident, announcing the closure of one of the beaches in Dahab, a popular Red Sea resort town located approximately 36 miles north of Sharm el-Sheikh. The decision was made in collaboration with the South Sinai Governorate.
Furthermore, Minister Fouad instructed the South Sinai natural reserve team to promptly form a committee to investigate the shark attack and determine its causes and circumstances, as reported by Khaleej Times.
This alarming event follows another shark attack in Egypt earlier this year when a Russian man was “eaten alive” by a tiger shark near Hurghada. Onlookers watched in shock as the victim was attacked and pulled underwater by the formidable predator. The incident continues to serve as a stark reminder of the dangers lurking beneath the surface of Egypt’s beautiful coastal waters.
The victim’s father, who witnessed the harrowing event from the shore, was left in a state of shock and horror as his daughter was carried out of the water following the attack. Authorities are now intensifying their efforts to ensure the safety of beachgoers and to prevent further shark-related incidents along Egypt’s Red Sea coastline.
