British actress Amy Jackson has spoken out against the online backlash she’s been facing after revealing her dramatic transformation for an upcoming movie role. The 31-year-old actress recently shared several photos on her Instagram showcasing her new look, which quickly became the subject of ridicule and comparisons to Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy by netizens.
In an exclusive interview with The Times of India, Amy Jackson opened up about her physical transformation, explaining that it was a necessary step for her new project. “I’m an actor, and I take my job very seriously. For the last month, I’ve been filming a new project in the UK. So, for the character I am playing, I had to slim down and fully commit myself to the role,” Amy shared.
Despite her dedication to her craft, Amy expressed her disappointment with the insensitive comments and hate she has been receiving online. She pointed out, “The online outcry from the (mainly male) Indian demographic is quite sad.”
The former Miss Teen World went on to highlight the double standards prevalent in the film industry, emphasizing the differential treatment of male and female actors when it comes to transformations for roles. “I’ve worked with male co-stars who had to drastically change their look for a film, and they were highly praised for it. The moment a woman does it through unusual hair and makeup which doesn’t conform to their idealism of beauty, they think they have the right to troll you,” she further stated.
Responding to being compared to the renowned Irish actor, Cillian Murphy, Amy Jackson expressed her excitement, saying she feels “over the moon” as Murphy is considered “chiselled perfection” by many. This response demonstrated her positive attitude amid the online negativity she has faced.
