In a major step toward modernizing traffic management, another major city in Punjab has officially launched the e-challan system, marking a continued expansion of digital enforcement across the province.
The new system uses intelligent cameras, automatic number-plate recognition, and centralized monitoring to detect traffic violations in real time. Violators will now receive electronic challans directly at their registered addresses, ensuring transparency and reducing physical interactions with traffic officials.
Authorities say the system aims to reduce accidents, improve compliance with traffic laws, and create a more efficient and accountable road-safety framework. Officials added that similar systems are gradually being rolled out across additional Punjab cities as part of a broader smart-governance initiative.
Residents have welcomed the development, calling it a “much-needed upgrade” for urban traffic discipline.
