Apple’s latest iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models have seen a notable drop in demand, according to a recent report by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. In a post on Medium, Kuo revealed that first-weekend sales of the iPhone 16 series totaled approximately 37 million units, marking a 13% decrease compared to the iPhone 15 series.
The decline in sales is particularly pronounced for the Pro models, with the iPhone 16 Pro experiencing a 27% drop and the iPhone 16 Pro Max seeing a 16% reduction in sales compared to their predecessors. Kuo attributes this downturn to several factors, including the availability of the iPhone 16 Pro series with significantly shorter delivery times compared to the 15 Pro series.
Kuo highlighted that the lower-than-expected demand is evident from the year-over-year decline in first-weekend sales. He pointed out that a key factor in the decreased interest is the delayed availability of Apple Intelligence, a new feature that will only be introduced with the release of iOS 18.1 in October. Additionally, heightened competition in China has also negatively impacted sales.
While the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models have shown better performance compared to last year’s versions, they have not been able to offset the underwhelming sales of the Pro models.
