Reports surfaced on Friday claiming that the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) had imposed new charges of Rs100 on each domestic passenger traveling through Pakistan’s airports. However, upon closer inspection, it has been revealed that the assertion is inaccurate.
The CAA, through its spokesperson Saifullah, clarified that the Rs100 charges are not novel; rather, they have simply been rebranded from ‘security charges’ to ‘airport charges.’ The money had been previously collected under the guise of security charges and will now be designated as airport charges.
Importantly, this modification involves only a change in nomenclature, and there are no additional charges imposed on domestic passengers traversing through airports.
According to the CAA’s notification, these charges are to be collected by airlines and then remitted to the CAA. This procedural adjustment aims to streamline the collection process rather than introduce new financial burdens on travelers.
Simultaneously, the CAA has taken a proactive stance by issuing show-cause notices to Serene Air and Air Blue regarding flight delays and cancellations, impacting a considerable number of passengers. The airlines are now under scrutiny and have been warned that failure to provide a satisfactory explanation may lead to fines, license cancellations, or reduced flight allowances.
As the aviation regulatory body maintains its commitment to ensuring the safety and efficiency of air travel, passengers can rest assured that the recent changes pertain to administrative procedures rather than additional financial obligations on their part.
