Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir, addressing the Margalla Dialogue 2024 in Islamabad, stated that “Fitna al-Khawarij” has evolved into a global hub for terrorist organisations and proxies. Speaking on “Pakistan’s Role in Peace and Stability,” he underscored the country’s significant contributions to regional harmony and international peace, according to Express News.
The event, hosted by the Islamabad Policy Research Institute (IPRI), saw General Munir stress that the rapid dissemination of false and misleading information has become a pressing issue. The spread of misinformation, fueled by technological advances, is destabilising political and social structures, he said, calling for stronger laws to curb this trend.
Highlighting global challenges, he pointed out that the world is witnessing substantial changes in economic, military, and technological spheres, with state-sponsored terrorism and violent non-state actors posing severe threats.
General Munir emphasised Pakistan’s unwavering resolve to combat terrorism, highlighting the role of Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad as part of the National Action Plan to eradicate extremism. He called on the Afghan interim government to prevent their land from being used by terrorist groups.
He criticised India’s extremist Hindutva policies, which endanger minorities globally and perpetuate violence in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He reiterated Pakistan’s stance on a free Palestinian state and ongoing efforts to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza and Lebanon.
General Munir pointed out that Pakistan has supported global peace efforts, with 235,000 Pakistani troops serving in UN peacekeeping missions and 181 sacrifices for international stability. He concluded by highlighting Pakistan’s young, resource-rich population and its pivotal location for global trade, reaffirming its commitment to peace and stability on the regional and global stage.
