Paris, August 6, 2024 – Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem has secured a spot in the Javelin Throw final at the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024. Nadeem impressed with a throw of 86.59 meters on his first attempt during the qualifying rounds on Tuesday.
Defending champion Neeraj Chopra of India also qualified for the final with an exceptional throw of 89.34 meters in his first attempt. The highly anticipated Javelin Throw final is scheduled for Thursday, August 8, at 11:25 PM Pakistan Standard Time (PST).
To qualify for the final, athletes must achieve a minimum throw of 84 meters. A total of 12 athletes will advance to the final round. If fewer than 12 athletes meet the 84-meter mark, those with the best throws will proceed to the medal round.
Pakistan sent seven athletes to the Paris Olympics, but six have already been eliminated from their respective events. Nadeem, 27, remains Pakistan’s last and greatest hope for an Olympic medal this year.
Nadeem’s previous accolades include a silver medal at the World Championship last year and a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022. His gold medal throw of 90.18 meters made him the first Pakistani athlete to win gold at the Commonwealth Games since 1962.
The nation eagerly awaits Thursday’s final, hoping Nadeem will bring home a historic Olympic medal.
