Asia’s largest cattle market has officially been inaugurated in Karachi ahead of the upcoming Eidul Adha, attracting buyers and sellers from across the country. Located at the Northern Bypass, the sprawling market covers hundreds of acres and hosts thousands of sacrificial animals including cows, bulls, goats, and camels.
Karachi Administrator Murtaza Wahab, who inaugurated the market, said all necessary facilities have been provided for the convenience of the public and traders. “From security arrangements to veterinary services and proper lighting, we’ve made sure this market runs smoothly,” he said during the opening ceremony.
More than 700 CCTV cameras have been installed across the site, and a dedicated police force has been deployed to ensure law and order. Separate entry and exit points, parking areas, and a mobile veterinary hospital have also been arranged.
The market is expected to see record footfall this year, with livestock arriving from across Sindh, Punjab, and Balochistan. Organizers believe the market will not only meet the needs of Karachi residents but also provide a significant economic boost to livestock farmers and transporters.
Vendors expressed optimism about sales this year, citing a better turnout compared to previous years. However, many buyers voiced concerns over high animal prices due to inflation and increased transportation costs.
The cattle market will remain operational until the eve of Eidul Adha.
