Field Marshal Asim Munir is set to become the first-ever Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of Pakistan, following a historic constitutional amendment. In his new role, he will oversee the Army, Navy, and Air Force, while continuing as Chief of Army Staff.
The amendment abolishes the post of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee after the current incumbent retires. Munir’s tenure as CDF will last five years from the date of his formal appointment.
The move aims to improve strategic coordination and unified command across Pakistan’s armed forces, marking a significant shift in the country’s military structure.
