Australian tennis legend Fred Stolle, a key figure in the golden era of the sport, has passed away at the age of 86.
Stolle, known for his graceful style and powerful game, was a two-time Grand Slam singles champion and an integral part of Australia’s Davis Cup-winning teams in the 1960s. He won the 1965 French Open and the 1966 US Open, while also finishing as the runner-up in six other major finals before finally clinching his first singles title.
Beyond singles, Stolle dominated in doubles, winning 10 Grand Slam doubles titles and seven mixed doubles titles, solidifying his legacy as one of the sport’s all-time greats.
