In a thrilling showdown at the Asian 6-Red Snooker Championship held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan’s Awais Munir emerged victorious on Tuesday after a gripping clash against Hong Kong’s Nansen Wan. Munir secured a decisive 6-3 triumph, showcasing impeccable skill and nerve throughout the final match.
The contest started evenly with both players tied at 2-2, but Munir surged ahead by clinching three consecutive sets, establishing a commanding 5-2 lead. Despite a resilient comeback attempt from Wan in the eighth frame, Munir maintained his composure in the ninth frame, sealing the championship with a scoreline of 34-0, 27-40.
Munir’s journey to the championship included a notable semi-final victory over fellow countryman Asjad Iqbal, whom he defeated 5-2 after rallying from an initial 0-2 deficit.
Meanwhile, earlier in the tournament, Pakistan’s Mohammad Hasnain triumphed in the Asian U21 Snooker Championship final, defeating compatriot Ahsan Ramzan 4-3 in a closely contested match. Hasnain’s victory marked a stellar performance, having also overcome tough opponents like Hong Kong’s Shawn Lee in the semi-finals.
Both Munir and Hasnain’s achievements underscore Pakistan’s growing prominence in international snooker competitions, further solidifying their status as formidable contenders in the sport.
