In a proud moment for Pakistan, former captain Babar Azam has solidified his legacy by having his bat displayed in the prestigious Long Room of the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). This exhibit features bats donated by cricketing legends, including Don Bradman, David Boon, Jack Hobbs, and Brian Lara.
The MCG management personally invited Azam to contribute the bat he used during Pakistan’s 2022 T20 World Cup final against England, a gesture he accepted with gratitude. Reflecting on this honor, Azam expressed the deep personal significance of this recognition at one of cricket’s most iconic venues.
“Honestly, it is an honor for me, and this means a lot to me because I played a World Cup final using this bat,” Azam said, speaking at the Long Room on Friday. “I have many good memories here at the MCG […] it is one of the best grounds of my career. Having my bat placed here alongside those of great players is truly a privilege.”
Azam’s contribution resonates with the MCG’s rich cricketing heritage, where bats from legendary players across the globe have found their place. Recently, Azam stepped down as Pakistan’s white-ball captain and was replaced by Mohammad Rizwan, while also being omitted from Pakistan’s test squad for the upcoming series against England.
