As Balochistan struggles to recover from the devastating floods earlier this year, the province is now facing the threat of more heavy rains, adding to the already extensive damages.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reports that the recent floods have claimed the lives of nine individuals in various areas of Balochistan. Among the worst-hit regions are Kech, Kharan, Barkhan, Pishin, and Chaman, where the fatalities occurred.
In a grim tally of destruction, 259 houses have been completely destroyed, leaving families homeless. Additionally, 1,040 houses have been partially damaged, further exacerbating the housing crisis in the region. The livelihoods of many have also been impacted, with 80 fishing boats reported as destroyed.
The floodwaters have not spared the province’s infrastructure, with four crucial roads and a vital bridge wiped out completely, hindering transportation and access to essential services.
As the forecast predicts more rains in the next 24 hours across several key areas including Quetta, Chaman, Ziarat, Pishin, Kalat, Chaghi, Naseerabad, Mastung, and Noshki, the situation remains precarious.
In response to this ongoing crisis, the army and navy are collaborating with provincial and district-level authorities to provide relief efforts. Their joint efforts aim to assist those affected by the floods, providing crucial aid and support to the affected communities.
Balochistan continues to face a challenging road to recovery, with communities banding together and aid organizations working tirelessly to alleviate the suffering caused by these devastating floods. We urge everyone in the affected areas to stay vigilant and heed safety warnings as the region navigates through this difficult time.
