Balochistan Caretaker Chief Minister Mir Ali Mardan Domki has directed the initiation of a comprehensive plan in collaboration with universities. The plan aims to introduce PhD and MPhil programs focused on the preservation of forestry, wildlife, and environmental protection. The objective is to educate citizens about the crucial role wildlife plays in maintaining a balanced ecosystem.
During a high-level meeting on the preservation of forests, wildlife, and environmental protection, Chief Minister Ali Mardan emphasized the need for collaboration with universities. He instructed the authorities to establish Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with academic institutions to provide dedicated research facilities for animal life, conservation, and public recreation.
One of the key directives from Ali Mardan is to take concrete steps to control the hunting of migratory birds and wildlife species. Special attention is to be given to the protection of the Persian Leopard and rare birds in the province. Concerns about the adverse effects of climate change on migratory Siberian birds were also highlighted, with the chief minister emphasizing the need for their protection.
Chief Minister Ali Mardan expressed his commitment to taking strict action to protect endangered species and to curb the poaching of wildlife. During the briefing, it was revealed that foreign poachers in Balochistan owe around $100,000 from trophy hunting. The meeting also disclosed that the ten-day hunting license fee is Rs 10 million.
Ali Mardan underscored the importance of collecting due fees from foreign hunters to contribute to conservation efforts. He further directed the strict implementation of a ban on new hunting licenses in Balochistan to ensure the preservation of wildlife across the province. This initiative aims to control poaching, illegal hunting, and the trade of birds of prey.
The ambitious plan unveiled by Chief Minister Ali Mardan Domki reflects a commitment to environmental sustainability and the protection of Balochistan’s rich biodiversity. As the province takes a pioneering step in collaboration with universities, it is expected to set a precedent for other regions to follow suit in the global effort to preserve and protect our planet’s diverse ecosystems.
