ISLAMABAD – 17 October 2025:
In a significant development for Pakistan’s defense industry, Bangladesh has reportedly expressed interest in purchasing 16 JF-17 Block III fighter jets from Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) Kamra.
According to defense sources, preliminary discussions between officials from Dhaka and Islamabad have already taken place, with a formal proposal expected to follow pending technical evaluations and financial negotiations.
The JF-17 Thunder Block III, co-developed by Pakistan and China, is the most advanced variant of the multirole fighter jet series, featuring an AESA radar, enhanced avionics, long-range weapon systems, and improved electronic warfare capabilities.
If finalized, the purchase would mark a major milestone in Pakistan’s defense exports, strengthening bilateral defense cooperation between the two South Asian nations.
Military analysts say Bangladesh’s interest reflects growing confidence in the JF-17 platform’s performance, cost-effectiveness, and reliability compared to other regional options.
Neither government has officially confirmed the deal yet, but insiders suggest that both sides are keen to finalize terms within the current fiscal year.
