Lahore, August 12, 2024 — The Bangladesh cricket team has touched down in Lahore, marking the start of their much-anticipated 2-Test match series against Pakistan. The squad, led by captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, landed at Allama Iqbal Airport from Dhaka amidst heightened security measures.
Upon arrival, the team was escorted to a private hotel under tight security, where they will rest and recuperate before beginning their training sessions. The players are scheduled to start their first practice at the Gaddafi Stadium on August 14. They will spend three days training in Lahore before traveling to Islamabad on August 17.
The first Test match is set to begin on August 21 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, with the second Test scheduled to start on August 30 in Karachi. This series marks a significant fixture in both teams’ cricket calendars.
The Bangladesh squad includes notable players such as Mahmudullah, Zakir Hasan, Shadman Islam, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Das, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Nazmul Hossain, Nurul Hasan, Ebadot Hossain, Hasan Mahmud, Taskin Ahmed, and Khaled Ahmed.
Shakib Al Hasan, who is also a member of Bangladesh’s Awami League and had been busy with a T20 league in Canada during the recent unrest in Dhaka, joins the team directly from Canada.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) accepted an invitation from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to adjust their schedule and arrive early for practice due to the current situation in Dhaka. The decision aims to provide the team with ample preparation time before the series commences.
