ISLAMABAD – In a significant gesture of support, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has donated $1 million to the World Health Organization (WHO) to aid Pakistan’s ongoing flood relief operations.
The donation will be used to strengthen emergency health services, provide life-saving medical supplies, and assist in preventing outbreaks of waterborne diseases in flood-affected communities. WHO officials confirmed that funds will also go toward setting up mobile health clinics and supporting vaccination drives in high-risk areas.
Pakistan has been grappling with devastating floods that have displaced millions, destroyed homes, and damaged vast agricultural lands. The disaster has put enormous pressure on the country’s healthcare system, with fears of epidemics growing in overcrowded relief camps.
Government representatives and humanitarian groups welcomed the contribution, calling it a timely intervention as relief efforts continue across Punjab, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Gates Foundation, which has long supported health and development initiatives in Pakistan, reaffirmed its commitment to working with partners to address urgent humanitarian needs while building resilience against future climate-related disasters.
