Mumbai: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) minister Nitesh Rane has raised questions about the recent knife attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, labeling the actor “garbage” and suggesting the attack might have been staged, Indian media reported.
Saif Ali Khan, 54, was stabbed six times during an alleged burglary attempt at his Mumbai residence and was hospitalized. He was discharged a few days later and photographed walking to his house without apparent difficulty, which sparked public speculation.
Speaking at a public gathering in Pune, Rane questioned the authenticity of the incident, ANI reported. “Look at what Bangladeshis are doing in Mumbai, they entered Saif Ali Khan’s house. Earlier, they stood at road crossings; now, they have started entering homes. Maybe they came to take Saif away. It is good, garbage should be taken away.”
Rane, who serves as Maharashtra’s minister for port development, claimed that Khan’s condition did not reflect someone who had recently endured a severe knife attack. “He was dancing while walking after being discharged,” Rane remarked.
The BJP leader also criticized opposition politicians, including Nationalist Congress Party’s Supriya Sule and Jitendra Awhad, accusing them of prioritizing the welfare of Bollywood Khans over Hindu actors. “Whenever any Khan, like Shah Rukh Khan or Saif Ali Khan, gets hurt, everyone starts talking about it. But when a Hindu actor like Sushant Singh Rajput is tortured, no one says a word,” Rane alleged.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam also expressed skepticism over the attack. He urged Khan’s family to disclose more details about the incident, stating, “The way Saif came [out of the hospital], it seems as if nothing happened four days ago. Can a person whose operation lasted six hours recover so quickly?”
As speculation swirls around the incident, Saif Ali Khan has yet to comment on the matter, and further details regarding the alleged attack remain undisclosed.
