In a significant development for South Asian cinema, Fawad Khan’s blockbuster Pakistani film The Legend of Maula Jatt is slated for release in Indian theaters on September 20. According to a report by an Indian entertainment website, the film, which also stars Mahira Khan and Hamza Ali Abbasi in pivotal roles, might be distributed in India by ZEE Studios.
The Legend of Maula Jatt, originally released in Pakistan in 2022, garnered widespread acclaim and achieved remarkable success. The film is a modern remake of the 1979 cult classic Maula Jatt, in which the iconic characters Maula Jatt and Noori Natt were immortalized by legendary actors Sultan Rahi and Mustafa Qureshi.
However, the film’s release in India has not been without controversy. Certain extremist groups in Pakistan have expressed opposition to its screening in India, with threats to disrupt its release.
As the film prepares to cross borders, fans on both sides of the border are eagerly awaiting its arrival, hoping it will further strengthen cultural ties between the two neighboring countries.
