Workers and supporters of the Balochistan National Party (BNP-Mengal) staged a significant protest on Saturday, blocking national highways across various regions in the province. The demonstrators aimed to draw attention to the alleged kidnappings of the sons of BNP senators and raise concerns regarding proposed constitutional amendments.
Under the leadership of BNP district organizer Sultan Imam Baloch and former district president Abdul Latif Qalandarani, protesters effectively shut down major routes, including the Quetta-Karachi national highway at Nuri Naseer Khan Chowk, as well as the Shahdadkot-Larkana highway and the Nal-Basima CPEC Road. These actions disrupted traffic and severed Balochistan’s road connections with other provinces.
While the protest caused significant delays for commuters, authorities permitted ambulances and vehicles transporting sick individuals to pass through, ensuring that critical services were not interrupted. Fortunately, the protest remained peaceful, with no reported incidents of violence.
BNP leaders announced that the demonstrations would continue indefinitely until the safe recovery of the kidnapped senators’ sons. As the situation unfolds, national highways in several areas of Balochistan remain blocked, and protests are expected to persist.
The BNP-Mengal’s actions underscore rising tensions in the province as they seek to address issues of security and governance amid ongoing political discussions.
