Islamabad — Panic gripped students and staff at International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) after a leopard was reportedly spotted roaming inside the university premises, triggering fear and chaos on campus.
Eyewitnesses said the wild animal was seen near academic blocks and hostels, prompting students to run for safety. Videos and images shared on social media showed frightened students locking themselves inside classrooms and hostels as announcements urged everyone to stay indoors.
Classes Disrupted, Emergency Response Activated
University authorities immediately suspended academic activities and alerted wildlife and security officials. Rescue teams were rushed to the scene to locate and safely capture the animal, while campus security cordoned off affected areas.
No injuries were reported at the time of filing this report, officials said, adding that student safety remains the top priority.
Fear and Questions Raised
The shocking incident has raised serious questions about campus security and wildlife control, especially in areas close to the Margalla Hills, where wild animals are occasionally sighted.
Students and parents have demanded strict measures to prevent such incidents in the future, calling the situation “terrifying” and “unacceptable.”
Situation Under Control
Authorities said efforts are underway to safely capture the leopard and ensure the campus is declared secure before normal activities resume.
Further updates are expected as officials continue their operation.
