Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), Pakistan’s largest exploration and production (E&P) company, has announced a significant natural gas discovery at the Shahu-1 well, located in the Khairpur district of Sindh. The company revealed this breakthrough in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Wednesday.
The discovery comes from the Sawan South Block’s lower Goru B Reservoir Sand. OGDCL holds a 20% working interest in the joint venture, which also includes United Energy Pakistan Limited (UEPL) with 75%, Government Holding Private Limited (GHPL) at 2.5%, and Sindh Energy Holding Limited (SEHL) with 2.5%. Drilled to a depth of 12,675 feet, the Shahu-1 well is estimated to produce 10 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (mmscfd).
This discovery not only strengthens Pakistan’s energy security but also boosts its hydrocarbon reserves.
