A British newspaper has alleged that 17 workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) were killed during an ongoing operation against opposition party members. The report claims that these deaths occurred in clashes with security forces, as the government intensifies its crackdown on dissent.
According to the publication, eyewitnesses reported heavy-handed tactics, including the use of live ammunition and tear gas, to disperse crowds during recent demonstrations. The report also alleged that several others sustained injuries, while dozens were arrested in overnight raids.
The Pakistani government has yet to issue an official statement addressing these claims. However, sources within the ruling coalition have denied the allegations, calling them “exaggerated” and “an attempt to mislead the international community.”
Human rights organizations have expressed concern over the escalating violence and urged authorities to ensure that democratic rights, including peaceful protest, are upheld.
This report has added to the growing criticism of the government’s actions against PTI, following the May 9 incidents that led to widespread arrests and suppression of party activities.
Further investigations are underway to verify the authenticity of these claims.
