Bushra Bibi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, became emotional during a court hearing at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on Monday, voicing her despair over the perceived lack of justice in the country. Her comments came as the court reserved its decision on bail applications for both her and her husband, who faces multiple legal challenges.
In a heartfelt plea during her husband’s bail hearing, Bushra Bibi expressed frustration over what she described as “systematic unfairness” faced over the past nine months. “There is no justice. I didn’t come here seeking justice,” she said tearfully, questioning the integrity of the judicial process. “Is the person inside [Imran Khan] not a human? Do the judges not see this?” She added that this would likely be her last court appearance due to her disillusionment with the legal system.
Bushra Bibi criticized her legal team for their handling of the situation, accusing them of wasting time, and indicated her willingness to face imprisonment if necessary. “We have been subjected to widespread injustice across Pakistan. We are being punished unfairly,” she lamented.
Court Hearing Details
The district and session court, presided over by Additional Sessions Judge Mohammad Afzal Magoo, convened to address the bail applications of both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in connection with seven cases. Legal representatives for both defendants were present during the proceedings, as reported by Express News.
During the hearing, lawyer Salman Safdar requested a strict order for Khan’s appearance via video link. The cases under consideration included six against Imran Khan and one against Bushra Bibi. Safdar informed the court about allegations in the Toshakhana case, where both Khan and Bushra Bibi, along with others, are implicated in fraudulent documentation.
The prosecution argued that the accused submitted fake receipts, prompting the judge to demand clarity on the investigation’s findings over the past year and a half. Expressing frustration, the judge questioned the prosecutor about the evidence and the legitimacy of the claims made, asking, “If I follow the law, who are you to file the case? Provide evidence of where the fake receipts were submitted.”
In response, the prosecutor claimed that the receipts were presented to the Election Commission. However, when pressed by the judge, he acknowledged that the Election Commission had not provided any confirmation regarding the specific receipt in question.
The judge emphasized the importance of Khan’s appearance, warning the jail superintendent that failure to present him would result in consequences. Safdar argued against a video link appearance for Khan due to technical difficulties and suggested that the court should decide on Bushra Bibi’s bail as she was present in the courtroom.
Following the arguments presented by both the defense and prosecution, along with statements from the investigative officer, the court ultimately reserved its decision on the bail pleas of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.
