ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s spouse, Bushra Bibi, received significant relief on Saturday after the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) granted her bail in 32 cases, including the May 9 unrest incident.
Presiding over the hearing, ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah approved the bail and issued notices to the investigation officers involved in the cases. The court further barred authorities from arresting Bushra Bibi in connection with the protests held on November 24 and 27 until January 23, 2024.
The development follows the sentencing of 25 civilians by military courts, with prison terms ranging from two to ten years for their role in violent attacks on military installations during the nationwide protests triggered by Imran Khan’s arrest on May 9, 2023.
Bushra Bibi had filed bail petitions in 23 cases related to the May 9 violence and nine other cases. The court has requested case records and postponed further proceedings until January 13, 2024.
These cases also include allegations of involvement in unrest during protests sparked by Imran Khan’s calls against his prolonged incarceration, the 26th constitutional amendment, and disputes over election mandates.
With the granted bail, Bushra Bibi cannot be arrested in any of the 32 cases currently under investigation, marking a temporary reprieve amidst ongoing legal challenges for PTI leadership.
