In another jaw-dropping engineering feat, China is building the world’s highest bridge, aiming to slash travel time across a mountainous region from one hour to just one minute.
The record-breaking structure — the Dawen River Bridge in southwest China’s Guizhou province — is set to soar 625 meters (2,051 feet) above the valley floor, overtaking all previous records for height. It’s part of a larger expressway project designed to enhance regional connectivity and boost economic development.
Engineers say the bridge will stretch 1,340 meters across the Dawen River Gorge and drastically improve travel between Liuzhi and Nayong counties. Currently, the route through the winding terrain takes about an hour. Once completed, the journey will take a mere 60 seconds thanks to the new high-speed route.
Construction began in 2022 and is expected to finish by 2025, with most of the structure already nearing completion. The bridge’s design combines state-of-the-art suspension technology and eco-friendly materials, ensuring both durability and minimal environmental impact.
Guizhou — already home to several world-record-holding bridges — has become a global hub for extreme infrastructure, as China continues to push the limits of modern engineering.
