In a groundbreaking move, China has officially launched the world’s first commercial 10G (10 Gigabit) broadband network, marking a major leap forward in global internet infrastructure.
The rollout, led by state-owned telecom giant China Mobile, began in key cities including Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen. The new network promises internet speeds up to 10 times faster than the current 1G fiber broadband, enabling ultra-high-definition streaming, real-time VR applications, and seamless connectivity for smart cities and AI-powered devices.
Industry experts are hailing the move as a game-changer for digital economies, potentially positioning China as a leader in next-gen telecommunications. The 10G network utilizes advanced optical fiber and cutting-edge switching technology, significantly reducing latency and improving energy efficiency.
“With the deployment of 10G broadband, China is not only meeting the rising demand for faster internet but also setting a new standard for the world,” said Zhang Yunming, Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology.
China plans to expand the network nationwide by 2027, aiming to cover over 80% of its urban households. This development follows its rapid rollout of 5G services, underlining its aggressive push toward digital modernization.
