LAHORE – Members of civil society have formally written to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, urging her government to reconsider the proposed Yellow Line project in Lahore. The appeal highlights serious concerns over the environmental consequences, potential displacement of communities, and lack of public consultation in the planning process.
The Yellow Line, part of Lahore’s urban mass transit expansion, is intended to connect key city areas with a high-capacity transport corridor. However, activists argue that the project could result in the destruction of green spaces and affect hundreds of residents along the proposed route.
In the letter, civil society groups called for a comprehensive environmental impact assessment and a transparent dialogue with affected stakeholders before moving forward. They emphasized the importance of sustainable and community-oriented development in addressing Lahore’s growing transportation needs.
The CM’s office has yet to respond to the concerns raised by civil society.
