In a move of compassion, Sindh government declares special remission as a gesture of goodwill. The reduction is in line with Rule 788 of the Sindh Prisons and Corrections Service Rules, 2019, based on recommendations from the IG of Prisons. This noble initiative benefits convicted prisoners within various Sindh prisons and correctional facilities.
The remission, however, excludes prisoners previously granted special reduction during Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha this year. It also does not apply to heinous crimes such as murder, terrorism, espionage, and more, listed under the Foreigners Act 1946.
Notably, President Arif Alvi had earlier announced a 180-day remission for specific categories of prisoners under Article 45 of the Constitution. A heartening move to grant relief to elderly and qualifying inmates.
As Pakistan revels in its 77th year of independence, this gesture exemplifies the spirit of compassion and humanity.
