ISLAMABAD – Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir is set to begin a fresh five-year tenure as Chief of Defence Forces, following approval from the government in a move aimed at ensuring continuity and stability in the country’s defence leadership.
According to official sources, the extension comes as Pakistan faces complex regional security dynamics, ongoing counterterrorism operations, and efforts to modernize the armed forces.
General Munir, who first assumed the post of COAS in November 2022, has played a key role in strengthening civil-military coordination, overseeing border security operations, and enhancing regional diplomatic engagements.
The renewed tenure is expected to focus on defence modernization, internal security, and strategic partnerships with allied nations.
Political and defence analysts say the decision underscores the government’s intent to maintain policy continuity in the face of mounting external and internal challenges.
An official notification confirming the development is expected to be issued soon.
