The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a chilling update on the weather conditions in Karachi, as the mercury plummeted to 14 degrees Celsius, signaling an escalation in the intensity of the ongoing cold spell.
According to the PMD advisory, brisk northeast winds, clocking in at a speed of eight kilometers per hour, have been a contributing factor to the sudden drop in temperature in the metropolis. Residents are advised to brace themselves for the intensified coldness gripping the region.
Subheading 2: “Met Office Forecasts Light Rain in Karachi and Heavy Snowfall in Balochistan”
The Met Office has further forecasted light rain in Karachi over the next two days, providing a temporary respite to the cold conditions. Meanwhile, Balochistan is bracing for heavy snowfall in various regions.
Snowfall is anticipated in areas including Chaghi, Quetta, Chaman, Ziarat, Qilla Abdullah, Qillah Saifullah, Loralai, Pishin, Mastung, Zhob, Kalat, Musa Khel, Kharan, Harnai, Sibbi, Noshki, Khuzdar, and along the Makran coast.
Subheading 3: “Dense Fog Causes Traffic Disruptions and Road Closures in Sindh and Punjab”
As the cold wave persists, dense fog has enveloped parts of Sindh and Punjab, leading to traffic imbalances and road closures. Several major roadways, including the National Highway and motorways, have been affected, disrupting intercity travel.
Motorway M2 has been closed from Islamabad to Balkasar, M5 from Iqbalabad interchange to Rohri, and Sawat Expressway shut down from Katlang to Chakdara toll plaza.
Authorities are urging citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, especially on motorways, due to the hazardous conditions caused by dense fog. Experts are recommending the use of masks when venturing outside to protect against the cold and fog-related health concerns.
