ISLAMABAD — Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has announced that constitutional protection is being granted to the rank of Field Marshal, the highest title in the Pakistan Army.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Bilawal said the decision is meant to “institutionalize and preserve” the rank within the country’s constitutional framework. He added that the proposal seeks to ensure that the title carries defined legal status, privileges, and limitations under Pakistan’s constitution.
“The position of Field Marshal holds historical significance in Pakistan’s military tradition, and providing it constitutional cover will prevent future ambiguities,” Bilawal stated.
While details of the amendment have not yet been made public, political observers believe the move could spark debate over the balance between civil authority and military honors in the country’s governance structure.
