Kurram District, Pakistan – A convoy of vehicles traveling to Parachinar in the Kurram tribal district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province was ambushed in the Bagan area, resulting in a deadly attack that claimed the lives of eight drivers and two security personnel. Five other security personnel sustained injuries in the assault.
Authorities responded with a counter-offensive, reportedly killing six attackers and wounding ten. Despite the retaliation, five drivers from the convoy remain missing, heightening concerns for their safety.
Tortured Bodies Discovered in Lower Kurram
In a related incident, four tortured bodies were found in the Urdowali area of Lower Kurram. Police confirmed that the victims were shot after being tortured, with four identified as drivers. The bodies have been shifted to the Lower Kurram Alizai Hospital.
Trucks Targeted and Burned
According to Haji Imdad, a prominent traders’ leader, three drivers are still missing, and only two trucks from the convoy of 35 have returned to their destination. Over 30 trucks were targeted, with goods worth billions of rupees looted. More than ten vehicles were burned in the attack, causing massive financial losses.
Community Leaders Condemn the Incident
A member of the Grand Jirga condemned the ambush, calling it a direct threat to ongoing peace efforts in the region. “This attack violates the peace agreement and disrupts life for countless families,” the Jirga member stated, urging authorities to take immediate action.
Sajid Turi, a former federal minister, criticized the government’s silence, highlighting the hardships faced by the local population due to repeated road closures and attacks. “The lack of government response is unacceptable,” he said, urging stronger measures to protect the region.
Ultimatum Issued
Jalal Bangash, a leader of the Turi Bangash tribe, issued an ultimatum to the government, demanding justice within three days. He warned of severe consequences if no action is taken against the perpetrators.
Government Response Awaited
Hours after the attack, the provincial government has yet to issue an official statement, drawing criticism from local leaders and communities for its inaction during a time of crisis.
Efforts to locate the missing drivers and maintain peace are ongoing, according to district authorities. The situation remains tense, with the community awaiting decisive action from the government.
