Lahore – Customs officials at Allama Iqbal International Airport successfully thwarted a smuggling attempt, intercepting 37 iPhones valued at approximately Rs 11.5 million.
The operation, led by Assistant Collector Customs Simrah and Superintendent Shahid Ali under the supervision of Collector Customs Airports Tayyeba Kayani, was initiated based on intelligence provided by the Collector’s office.
The customs team apprehended Umer Farooq, a passenger on a Fly Jinnah flight from Sharjah, after discovering the concealed smartphones in his luggage. Preliminary investigations revealed that the phones were likely intended for sale on the black market, circumventing customs duties and taxes to fetch inflated prices.
Collector Tayyeba Kayani commended the team’s swift and precise action, emphasizing the department’s dedication to combating smuggling and protecting Pakistan’s economic stability.
Authorities have launched further investigations to uncover potential links and identify any additional suspects connected to the smuggling network.
