The district administration took action on Friday, sealing popular fast-food chain Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) and the OMG Restaurant in Chaklala Scheme-III and Askari-3, respectively, following alarming reports of unhygienic conditions and the use of rotten meat in their kitchens.
Assistant Commissioner Cantonment, Qandeel Fatima Memon, led the operation and ordered the closure of KFC Scheme 3 after a complaint was lodged, alleging the discovery of a steel wire in a burger fillet. After a thorough investigation confirmed the authenticity of the complaint, KFC Scheme 3 was swiftly sealed. The food outlet received a stern warning to improve kitchen hygiene practices and food quality.
In a separate raid, the assistant commissioner cantonment proceeded to seal OMG Restaurant in Askari 3. Complaints had surfaced about the establishment serving burgers with an unpleasant odor. Upon inspecting their kitchen facilities, it was discovered that the condition was deplorable, with cockroaches infesting the area and jars left uncovered. Consequently, OMG Restaurant was sealed immediately.
Qandeel Fatima Memon emphasized that food outlets must obtain medical examination certificates from the district health authority. Furthermore, it is now mandatory for food outlets to conduct medical tests on chefs and workers biannually, with medical reports obtained from government hospitals.
In response to these actions, she noted that the provincial government has issued strict directives to crack down on those jeopardizing public health. She vowed to continue surprise visits in the cantonment areas to ensure compliance with health and hygiene standards.
Qandeel Fatima Memon reaffirmed that the district administration of Rawalpindi is committed to safeguarding the well-being of its residents and ensuring that clean and healthy food is consistently served to the people of the district.
