In response to the hazardous air quality conditions, the Punjab government has announced that all educational institutions in the province will remain closed until November 24. This decision comes as the air quality index (AQI) in several cities, including Lahore, continues to soar to dangerous levels, reaching AQI values well above the safe threshold.
The government cited the ongoing environmental crisis and its adverse impact on the health and well-being of students as the primary reason for this extension. The closure aims to mitigate the exposure of children and staff to the harmful effects of air pollution, which has reached alarming levels in recent days.
The Education Department urged parents to ensure their children stay indoors and take necessary precautions to safeguard their health. Online learning sessions are expected to continue in the meantime, with educational authorities coordinating with schools to implement remote teaching where feasible.
Officials have also urged the public to limit outdoor activities and follow the government’s air quality guidelines to prevent further health risks as the region battles persistent smog and pollution.
